AREA INFORMATION:
This cottage is located just about 20 minutes from the town of Bancroft, the 'Mineral Capital of Canada'. Built on mining (and forestry), there are more rock/mineral varieties here than actually anywhere in the world!! We are famous for the Rockhound Gemboree weekend (filled with events) in early August. Stop in at the Mineral Museum located in the old train station if you wish. Enjoy shopping in Bancroft at the many unique gift and artisan shops. We have 2 large grocery stores - No Frills, and Foodland. We also have a fairly new hospital (QHC North Hastings) with an emergency department. Restaurants in Bancroft range from fast food (McDonald's, 2 Tim Hortons, Subway, Pizza Pizza, Pizza Hut (take-out only), to some nice family restuarants (Vito's (Italian), Cafe BC, Eagle's Nest, The Curry House etc.) and a few great cafes (McG's Cakes, Waddle and Daub etc.)! Dairy Queen on the main street offers cold treats, or for a real treat (the best ice cream!!...and milk etc.) head just a few minutes out on Hwy #28 South to Kawartha Dairy!!
There is so much to do within just minutes of downtown Bancroft - there is a spectacular lookout and hiking (at the Eagle's Nest Park), ATV trails, golfing at the 18 hole Bancroft Ridge Golf Club. and much more!! Visit the Bancroft Heritage Museum for tourism information, or go to www.Bancroft.ca
