Welcome to Ontario

Ontario is Canada’s second largest province in area, extending from Hudson and James bays to the north to the St. Lawrence River–Great Lakes chain to the south. Ontario is bordered to the east by the province of Quebec, to the south by the United States, and to the west by the province of Manitoba. With over 250,000 freshwater lakes, rivers and waterways, and bordering four of North America’s five Great Lakes, Ontario’s landscapes are shaped by water and dramatically transform with each changing season. Ontario is vast and varied with unmatched wonders to discover and endless ways to explore. Each of the 15 regions in Ontario offer their own iconic experiences and off-the-beaten-path adventures.

Ontario’s Highlands is one of these regions and encompasses the Ottawa Valley, Lanark County, Frontenac County, Hastings County, Lennox & Addington and Haliburton Highlands. Visit historic small towns, savour local flavours and fare, hike to the edge of a raging waterfall or explore expansive wildernesses.

Within Ontario Highlands, the Town of Bancroft, Ontario is situated mid-way between Toronto and Ottawa, and 70 km south of the world-famed Algonquin Provincial Park. Bancroft is nestled in the York River valley, on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield. The area is known for it’s pristine lakes, and wild and rugged landscapes – a prime example is the Eagle’s Nest lookout park overlooking the town. Bancroft is visited by mineralogists and collectors from all over the world. The area’s pristine lakes and waterways offer some of the best boating, fishing, swimming and views, and is referred to as the ‘Heart of Cottage Country’.
